Satrix new ETFs launched in South Africa

Satrix Managers, the company to launch the first ETF in South Africa, has rolled out three new ETFs on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), providing access to global, US and emerging market equities. To gain its designated exposures, Satrix will invest in funds of the iShares Core Series UCITS ETFs.

Natixis has partnered with Nasdaq to launch a new smart beta index based on the value factor using the Nasdaq 100 as the parent index. The Nasdaq 100 Target 25 Index will track 25 stocks from the Nadsaq 100 that Natixis has identified as undervalued.

Strategic beta ETFs suffering from mixed messages, finds Cerulli

New research from Cerulli Associates, a global research and consulting firm, finds there is a misalignment between US ETF issuers and advisors on the use and implementation of strategic beta. Nearly two-thirds of ETF issuers claim to position strategic beta as a replacement for passive ETFs, but nearly two-thirds of advisors who use strategic beta report using such products to replace active mutual funds.


Nasdaq hosts 13 new ETF listings in Q2 2017

Horizon Kinetics has added two new funds to its active ETF line-up.

Nasdaq Stock Market hosted 13 new exchange-traded fund listings from four issuers during the second quarter of 2017. ETF providers listing on the exchange during the quarter included Victory Capital, First Trust, Legg Mason and IndexIQ.


Hedge fund professionals anticipate greater use of ETFs

More than nine out of ten (92%) of senior hedge fund professionals expect to see an increased value of ETFs being used within their industry this year, according to research commissioned by European ETF provider Source. Chris Mellor, executive director, equity product management at Source, said: “Hedge fund managers are sophisticated investors and it is clear they are increasingly seeing the benefits that ETFs provide them, such as a cost-effective means to execute their strategies.”

BlackRock has cross-listed three of its iShares ETFs to Deutsche Börse’s Xetra and Frankfurt exchanges. The new additions include two equity ETFs which track European and global stocks that are characterised by above-average dividend yields and high quality fundamentals, as well as a fixed income ETF which tracks the performance of floating rate bonds denominated in US dollars.

MSCI has released its index performance report for June 2017, breaking down the best and worst performing equity indices over this period by country, factor and sector. The index provider, which is one of the leading providers of equity indices to the exchange-traded fund industry, reports the highest index returns in June were achieved by financials, for sector exposure, while Canada and enhanced value topped the lists of country and factor exposures respectively.


TSX reaches record 500 ETFs on exchange

Toronto Stock Exchange has announced that it has reached a significant milestone with 500 ETFs listed on its exchange. This number has more than doubled in the past five years, bringing the total market capitalization of listed ETFs to approximately $130 billion as of 30 June 2017.
