First Asset launches Canadian barbell bond strategy ETFs on TSX

WisdomTree launches Canada aggregate bond ETF

First Asset, a Toronto Canada-based investment manager, has announced the launch of three new ETFs following barbell bond investment strategies. The three funds are the First Asset DEX Government Bond Barbell Index ETF (GXF), offering exposure to Canadian government bonds; the First Asset DEX Corporate Bond Barbell Index ETF (KXF), offering exposure to Canadian corporate bonds; and the First Asset DEX All Canada Bond Barbell Index ETF (AXF), offering exposure to both Canadian corporate and government bonds.


Global ETF assets surpass $1.5 trillion

At the end of the second quarter (Q2) 2012, the global ETF industry had 3,309 ETFs, with 7,353 listings, assets of $1,503bn, from 171 providers on 50 exchanges, according to analysis from ETFGI, a London-based independent ETF research and consultancy firm.

China has approved the listing of two ETFs on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges that will invest directly in Hong Kong-listed stocks. “The approval of the Hong Kong stock ETFs represents a milestone”, said Dr Eddy Fong, Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission. “Hong Kong stock ETFs provide an alternative channel for Mainland investors to participate in the Hong Kong securities market and further strengthen the co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong capital markets.”

S&P Dow Jones Indices formed from merger of S&P Indices and Dow Jones Indexes

Indexing giants S&P Indices and Dow Jones Indexes have now formally combined to create S&P Dow Jones Indices. The McGraw-Hill Companies, owner of S&P Indices, and CME Group, the major shareholder in Dow Jones Indexes, have announced the completion of the deal that was first confirmed back in November last year, namely a joint venture between the companies’ two indexing divisions. The combined S&P Dow Jones Indices calculates over 830,000 indices and publishes benchmarks that provide the basis for 575 ETFs globally with $387 billion in assets invested.

Cushing MLP Asset Management has announced the launch of the Cushing Royalty Trust and Upstream Income Index (Cushing Royalty Index) (CRTY).
