Cambria Investment Management, a California-based investment adviser, has announced the launch of its third exchange-traded fund, the Cambria Foreign Shareholder Yield ETF (FYLD). Listed on the NYSE Arca, the fund is linked to the Cambria Foreign Shareholder Yield Index, an index consisting of 100 non-US developed market stocks offering a high shareholder yield.

MSCI, a leading global index provider and a major supplier of indices to exchange-traded funds (ETFs), has announced the launch of the MSCI Multi-Factor Indexes, a suite of indices designed to offer institutional investors a basis for passively implementing index-linked multi-factor strategies. Alain Dubois, Head of Index Product Development for MSCI, said: “MSCI is the first index provider to give institutional investors tools that provide an easy way to analyze and adjust their allocations among factor indexes when their views of the market change.”

UBS Global Asset Management has listed eight new sterling-hedged ETFs on the London Stock Exchange. Aimed at sterling-based investors, the ETFs contain in-built currency hedges enabling investors to mitigate the risk of exchange rate fluctuations. Andrew Walsh, Head of UBS ETF Sales UK, explained: “These currency-hedged UBS ETFs are ideal building blocks for investors looking to minimize their currency risks. In this way, we are responding to a growing need of investors who would like to better hedge their portfolios against exchange rate fluctuations.”

State Street Global Advisors (SSgA) has unveiled the SPDR MSCI World Small Cap UCITS ETF (ZPRS), the first ever exchange-traded fund to track the MSCI World Small Cap Index. Listed on the Deutsche Börse, the new UCITS-compliant ETF offers exposure to small-cap companies across 24 developed market countries globally, capturing approximately 14% of the free float-adjusted market capitalization in each country. The growth bias inherent in small-cap stocks means the fund can be used to tilt a portfolio towards growth.

BATS Chi-X Europe has announced that the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets UCITS ETF (IEEM) and iShares MSCI World Minimum Volatility UCITS ETF (MVOL) will begin trading as secondary listings on the exchange’s Regulated Market on Monday 18th November 2013. Mark Hemsley, CEO of BATS Chi-X Europe, said: “We are delighted to welcome iShares as the inaugural issuer for our pan-European listings service offering these ETFs to our market participants across the pan-European trading community.”

Global X Funds, a New York-based provider of exchange-traded funds, has unveiled the Global X Next Emerging & Frontier ETF (EMFM), a new ETF providing exposure to an exciting crop of less developed emerging and frontier market countries. Bruno del Ama, chief executive officer of Global X Funds, said: “Investing in emerging markets continues to be an important strategy for portfolio diversification and growth, but investors must now look beyond more mature [emerging market] economies to regions with accelerating growth rates and expanding populations.”

October 2013 represented another strong month for the global exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and exchange-traded products (ETPs) industry, with net inflows of $32.6 billion combining with positive market performance to push global assets up to a new record high of $2.3 trillion, according to London-based consultancy ETFGI. Year to date through end of October, global ETF/ETP assets have increased by 19% based on positive market performance and net inflows of $202.2 billion.

FlexShares, the exchange-traded funds business of Northern Trust, has launched a new ETF providing actively enhanced exposure to global real estate securities. Listed on the NYSE Arca, the FlexShares Global Quality Real Estate Index ETF (GQRE) attempts to outperform traditional real estate indices via global exposure to listed, non-mortgage real estate investment trusts and operating companies that emphasize stable, long-term capital growth at an attractive price.

Global exchange-traded product flows reached $32.9 billion in October, according to the latest BlackRock ETP Landscape Report, with total ETP assets in Europe crossing the $400 billion mark for the first time. Raj Seshadri, Head of BlackRock ETP Insights, commented: “We’re very encouraged by the growth we’ve seen in the European ETP market this year. European-listed ETPs have seen positive inflows each month since July, and the total AUM for Europe crossed $400 billion for the first time in October.”

FTSE has expanded its line-up of alternatively weighted indices with the launch of the FTSE GDP Weighted Index Series. The new index series is designed to reflect the performance of constituents of the FTSE All-World Index Series where an aggregate country’s weight in each index is proportionate to its forecast GDP, as defined by the IMF’s five-year purchasing power parity forecast GDP. The indices are suitable both as benchmarks for actively managed funds and as underlyings for index-linked investment products such as exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
