ETF Strategy is a financial media company focused on the fast-growing exchange-traded fund (ETF) and indexing industry. Our properties include the award-winning ETF Strategy news website (www.etfstrategy.co.uk) and a growing portfolio of live events including the industry-leading ETF Portfolios Summit hosted at the London Stock Exchange and the Smart Beta Europe Conference presented in association with Cass Business School.

Description:
Owing to the continued success of the business and ongoing growth of the ETF industry, an opportunity has arisen for a number of bright students to join our team in London as Investment Journalists / Fund Reporters on a part-time, work experience basis. This is an exciting opportunity to write for Europe’s leading online ETF publication and to cover one of the fastest growing and most dynamic areas of the asset management industry. Successful candidates will be treated as integral members of the team, and, under supervision and guidance, will be given a significant amount of independence to originate a large proportion of their own work.

Day-to-day tasks include:

– Reporting on new ETF and index launches
– Coverage of evolving ETF industry news stories
– Producing original ETF features and thematic pieces
– Interviewing senior ETF industry figures
– Attending press briefings and industry events
– Liaising with third-party contributors

Work experience students may also be invited to lend a hand to the events side of the business as and when required.

Requirements:
– Strong writing skills
– Ability to work quickly, independently and under pressure
– Excellent attention to detail
– Knowledge of asset management, investments and markets
– Desire to develop a deep understanding of ETFs (and related indexing areas such as Smart Beta and ESG)
– Ideally studying for a degree in investments, economics or finance

Package:
The work experience placements are voluntary, with no set contractual hours. However, you will be fully credited as author and the experience could be an excellent launch pad for a career at one of the leading financial news organisations (e.g. FT, WSJ, Reuters, Bloomberg) or one of the many publications focused on the investment management industry (e.g. Citywire, Morningstar).

For the right candidates, we can secure you invites and press passes to various investment conferences, seminars and product launches, and accompany you to interviews with major players at companies such as BlackRock, SSGA, Vanguard, Deutsche Bank, Invesco, FTSE Russell, MSCI etc. We will also happily write references for committed candidates and introduce strong candidates to industry contacts.

Writing example:

Option A.
500 words on the performance of a particular market (e.g. UK, Europe, US, Asia, Emerging Markets) or asset class (equities, fixed income, commodities, currencies) over the past month. Essentially, this is a round-up of market activity, winners and fallers etc.

Or

Option B.
500 words on the case for investing in a particular country, asset class or sector (e.g. (i) The case for investing in US infrastructure stocks or (ii) emerging market debt). Essentially, this is opportunity to pick a market that you think will perform well over a time-period if your choosing and to make the case for it.
