ProShares Smart Materials ETF (TINT US) – Portfolio Construction Methodology
The underlying Solactive Smart Materials Index targets global developed-market equities whose products or services are tied to smart and other technologically advanced materials. Eligibility requires a primary listing in a developed market (including South Korea and Taiwan but excluding local China listings), share-class market cap ≥250m USD, and ADVT ≥1m USD over both one- and six-month windows. Solactive’s ARTIS text-mining algorithm scores companies on their exposure to smart materials production, disruptive advanced materials, and enabling technologies; candidates are manually checked for thematic relevance, then ranked by score. At each semi-annual selection, the top six names by score enter automatically; existing constituents ranked 7–36 are retained until the index reaches 30 stocks, after which new names fill any remaining slots. Constituents are weighted by share-class market cap and then iteratively capped at 4.5% each, with excess weight redistributed proportionally, before semi-annual reconstitution and rebalancing.
