Horizons ETFs Canada has slashed the management fee on the Horizons Gold ETF (HUG CN) from 0.65% to 0.20%, making it one of the lowest-cost gold ETFs in Canada. Steve Hawkins, President and CEO of Horizons ETFs, said, “Our fee reduction represents more than a two-thirds decrease in the management fee of the ETF – a significant cost savings opportunity that we are happy to pass on to investors looking for a low-cost ETF solution to obtain exposure to gold.”


Horizons lowers total cost of Nasdaq 100 ETF

Horizons ETFs Canada has lowered the total cost of ownership of the Horizons Nasdaq 100 Index ETF (HXQ CN) by switching the fund’s replication method from synthetic to direct physical replication. Following the change, the fund is now the cheapest ETF in the country to provide exposure to the pre-eminent large-cap growth index.

ETF strategists threatened by competition from issuers, finds Cerulli

Cerulli predicts strong growth for fixed income ETFs

Over three-quarters (77%) of ETF strategists have rated competition from ETF issuers as the most significant challenge to their businesses, up significantly from 33% in 2016, according to financial research firm Cerulli Associates. The survey results reflect the proliferation of ETF managed portfolios offered by issuers that leverage the cost synergies of using their own ETFs in the portfolio construction process. Daniil Shapiro, Associate Director at Cerulli Associates, commented, “The fees that strategists charge for their asset allocations can appear excessive when compared with the zero-cost allocations frequently available from issuers that generate revenue from the expense ratios of their underlying ETFs.”


Horizons introduces world’s first inverse and leveraged marijuana ETFs

Horizons ETFs Canada has launched two new ETFs on Toronto Stock Exchange which are the world’s first to provide inverse and leveraged exposure to marijuana-related stocks. The funds provide twice the daily return and inverse daily return, respectively, of the North American MOC Marijuana Index of North American publicly listed companies with significant business activities in the marijuana industry.
