Assets invested in ETFs listed in the United States increased by over a third (34.3%) during 2017 to reach a new high of $3.42 trillion at the end of December, according to ETF industry consultants ETFGI. The US is on track to chalk up two straight years of consecutive monthly net inflows, with $44.3bn gathered in December 2017 marking the twenty-third successive month of net inflows.

Mutual funds will become legacy products within 15 years, with ETF assets in Europe set to treble within the next decade, according to Hector McNeil, chief executive of new white-label ETF provider HANetf.

Assets invested in inverse and leveraged ETFs listed globally increased 14.1% in the first nine months of 2017 to reach a new record high of $77.1 billion, according to London-based ETF industry consultant ETFGI.

Year-to-date (YTD) net inflows for ETFs globally reached a record $433 billion at the end of September 2017, according to ETFGI, an increase of 79% from the same period in 2016. ETFGI, a London-based ETF research and consultancy firm, has released the results of its monthly ETF landscape report showing assets invested in globally-listed ETFs have grown 35.3% in the first eight months of 2017 to reach a new record high of $4.8 trillion. On current momentum, global ETF assets look set to reach $5tn in the next few months.
