Vanguard has trimmed the fees charged on 21 of its US-listed ETFs including some of its biggest, blockbuster products. Eight of the ETFs adopting lower expense ratios are ranked in the firm’s top ten by assets under management, including the $114 billion Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF (VTI US) and $113bn Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO US), the third and fourth largest ETFs globally.

Vanguard has announced plans to expand commission-free online trading to the vast majority of ETFs available in the US. Karin Risi, managing director of Vanguard’s retail investor group in the US, commented, “Vanguard has led the industry in reducing the cost and complexity of investing for all investors for more than four decades. The study, which includes a sub-section entitled “Millennials are Mad for ETFs”, found that ETFs are the investment vehicle of choice for 91% of Millennial investors.
