Charles Schwab rolls out three low-cost fixed income ETFs

Charles Schwab Investment Management has launched three new ETFs in the US, providing low-cost access to core fixed income exposures. Two of the ETFs track the USD corporate bond market, targeting the front and middle segments of the yield curve, while the third provides exposure to the far end of the US Treasury yield curve. Each of the funds is linked to a Bloomberg Barclays index and comes with an expense ratio of just 0.06%. Jonathan de St. Paer, President of Charles Schwab Investment Management, commented, “Investors are increasingly looking to bond ETFs as a potential source of diversification, liquidity, and income, particularly in this time of heightened stock market volatility.”


SSGA revamps SPDR Nuveen high yield muni bond ETF

SSGA launches four Paris-aligned equity ETFs

State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) has made changes to the $900 million SPDR Nuveen S&P High Yield Municipal Bond ETF (HYMB US) which sees the fund ditch index provider S&P Dow Jones Indices in favour of Bloomberg. Effective 1 October 2019, the ETF has ceased tracking the S&P Municipal Yield Index and begun following the Bloomberg Barclays Municipal Yield Index.

Nuveen, an operating division of TIAA Global Asset Management, has launched a new fixed income ETF – the Nuveen ESG High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (NUHY US) – on NYSE Arca. The fund is an industry-first in that it is currently the only US-listed ETF to provide exposure to high yield corporate bonds while factoring in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations. Jordan Farris, Managing Director and Head of ETFs at Nuveen, commented, “The Nuveen ESG High Yield Corporate Bond ETF seeks the dual objectives of offering investors competitive income while remaining consistent with environmental, social, and governance values.”


Franklin Templeton launches actively managed ‘core’ bond ETF

Franklin Templeton has announced the launch of the actively managed Franklin Liberty US Core Bond ETF (FLCB US) on NYSE Arca. The fund comes seeded with $100m and is aimed at investors seeking diversified core fixed income exposure via a single ticker. “We believe active management is critical for achieving long-term returns and managing investment risk, particularly in multi-sector investment grade fixed income,” said Patrick O’Connor, Global Head of ETFs for Franklin Templeton.


Amundi rolls out short-dated euro corporate ESG bond ETF

Paris-based Amundi has expanded its responsible investment line-up with the launch of the Amundi Index Euro Corporate SRI 0-3Y – UCITS ETF DR on Euronext Paris. The ETF provides exposure to short-dated euro-denominated corporate bonds from issuers with strong environmental, social and governance (ESG) credentials. It is linked to the Bloomberg Barclays MSCI Euro Corporate ESG BB+ Sustainability SRI 0-3 Year Index. Invesco launches suite of euro government bond ETFs in Europe

Invesco has launched a suite of fixed income ETFs in Europe providing access to the euro-denominated government bond market. The ETFs, which track Bloomberg Barclays indices and deliver a range of maturity exposures, come with expense ratios of just ten basis points. Paul Syms, Head of EMEA ETF Fixed Income Product Management at Invesco, said, “Many investors have European government bonds for core allocation to diversify and reduce their portfolio volatility. We have developed these new ETFs with the aim of delivering the right balance between performance and broad market exposure.”
