Singapore Exchange targets Asian ETF market with launch of thematic sector indices

SGX Index Edge, the newly launched index division of the Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX), has introduced 11 new equity indices targeting sector-specific exposure within the Singapore economy. The new additions are part of SGX’s Thematic Indices, a project aimed at increasing transparency in the Asia-Pacific region, and the building blocks for investable products such as exchange-traded funds.

The newly launched indices profile specific sectors of Singapore’s equity market. These include real estate, healthcare, minerals, oil& gas, and maritime & offshore sectors.

Launched in October 2015, SGX Index Edge provides indexing solutions for issuers while also supplying enhanced profiling and risk/return analysis to asset managers and investors. The new indices cover equities from the real estate, healthcare, minerals, oil & gas, and maritime & offshore sectors. The move is set to encourage the creation of tracking assets such as ETFs, allowing investors to better tailor their desired equity exposure.
