iShares Global Clean Energy ETF (ICLN US) – Portfolio Construction Methodology
The underlying S&P Global Clean Energy Transition Index targets companies from developed and emerging markets with primary business activities across renewable power generation (solar, wind, hydro, biomass, geothermal), enabling equipment, and related clean-energy technologies and services. Constituents are drawn from a global equity universe using exposure scores based on reported revenue and business descriptions; minimum exposure is required for inclusion, with buffers to limit turnover when exposure fluctuates. Additional investability filters address minimum float, trading liquidity, and foreign-listing accessibility. The index weights constituents by float-adjusted market cap subject to single-name caps and thematic diversification controls across sub-clusters to prevent concentration in turbines, modules, or utilities. Sustainable business-involvement screens apply to thermal coal and other excluded activities. Rebalancing occurs semiannually, with interim corporate-action and share/float updates.
