The underlying Dynamic Oil & Gas Services Intellidex Index provides factor-driven exposure to US-listed oil and gas equipment, services and drilling companies. The universe includes common stocks and selected units classified in relevant energy services industries and meeting minimum market-cap and liquidity requirements that screen out illiquid micro-caps while retaining tradable small- and mid-cap names. Eligible securities must also meet basic seasoning and listing criteria. The index then applies an Intellidex model that scores stocks on multiple dimensions—price and earnings momentum, valuation, earnings quality and management actions such as balance-sheet deleveraging or share repurchases. Securities are ranked by a composite score, and the highest-ranked group, typically around 30 names, is selected. Constituents are weighted in proportion to their factor scores, with caps that limit single-stock exposure to a modest mid-single-digit percentage to reduce concentration. The index is reconstituted and reweighted on a regular quarterly schedule, allowing factor scores and liquidity screens to refresh while maintaining a relatively focused portfolio.

Investment Proposition

Invesco Oil & Gas Services ETF (PXJ) delivers targeted exposure to the oilfield equipment, drilling, and well-services ecosystem that underpins upstream production and capital spending. The fund concentrates on companies whose revenues are closely tied to rig counts, completion activity, and pricing for specialized services, creating high operating leverage to commodity-cycle upswings and, conversely, pronounced drawdown potential in slowdowns. Strategy design focuses on a defined industry universe with periodic reconstitutions and rebalances that can shift weights as fundamentals, liquidity, and corporate actions evolve; portfolio turnover may be higher than broad energy benchmarks as service providers’ prospects change quickly through the cycle. Expect factor tilts toward smaller and mid-cap cyclicals with sensitivity to utilization rates, dayrates, and producer cash-flow budgets. Use cases include a tactical energy beta sleeve for investors seeking torque to rising crude or capex recoveries, a thematic allocation capturing production efficiency trends, or a satellite position complementing integrated energy exposure. Suitable profiles include macro-aware allocators implementing pro-cyclical tilts and equity managers expressing reflation views. Key risk to monitor: concentrated industry exposure amplifying volatility during commodity price retrenchments.
