The underlying Dynamic Energy Exploration & Production Intellidex Index targets U.S. energy companies focused on exploration, extraction and processing of crude oil and natural gas, including selected refineries and midstream operators. From the 2,000 largest, most liquid U.S. stocks listed on NYSE, NYSE American and NASDAQ, the index defines an industry group using the FactSet Revere Hierarchy to capture companies significantly engaged in exploration and production and related activities. Eligible stocks are ranked each quarter by the Intellidex quantitative model, which aggregates around 47 factors into five groups: Price Momentum, Earnings Momentum, Quality, Management Action and Value. The index then selects 30 constituents: eight larger-cap names (top market-cap quintile) and 22 smaller-cap names (remaining quintiles). Larger stocks collectively receive 40% of index weight and smaller stocks 60%, with equal weighting within each size tier. The index is rebalanced and reconstituted quarterly in February, May, August and November.

Investment Proposition

Invesco Energy Exploration & Production ETF (PXE) provides focused exposure to U.S. oil and gas exploration and production companies, offering direct equity sensitivity to upstream activity, reserve growth, and capital discipline across the cycle. The rules-based approach emphasizes the pure-play E&P segment, resulting in a more concentrated, commodity-linked profile than broad energy baskets and a return pattern primarily driven by crude and natural-gas price trends, cost inflation, and hedging behavior. Equity factors often tilt toward value and cyclicality, with cash flows that can be variable but responsive to pricing tailwinds; turnover arises from periodic rebalances and corporate actions. In diversified portfolios, PXE can serve as a tactical overlay for inflation beta, a targeted thematic sleeve for energy supply dynamics, or a concentration hedge against tech-heavy growth exposures. It may suit macro-tactical allocators seeking amplified commodity-sensitive equity beta and real-asset-oriented investors integrating an upstream sleeve alongside midstream or integrated energy holdings. Performance generally benefits from improving demand, supply constraints, or reflationary phases and is challenged by falling energy prices or tightening financial conditions. A key risk is elevated volatility from commodity dependence and concentrated industry exposure, which warrants sizing discipline and monitoring of turnover-related costs.
