The underlying Pacer WealthShield Index provides a trend-following allocation that shifts between US equity sectors and US Treasury exposures. On the third-to-last business day each month, it compares the ratio of the S&P U.S. High Yield Corporate Bond Index to the S&P U.S. Treasury Bond 7–10 Year Index with its 5-month exponential moving average; a higher ratio leads to Equity Exposure, a lower ratio to Fixed Income Exposure for the next month. In Equity Exposure, the index ranks 12 sector and industry benchmarks (11 S&P 500 sector total return indices plus S&P Biotechnology Select Industry and Dow Jones Internet Composite) by 6-month total return each calendar quarter and equally allocates 20% to the top five. If any chosen component trades below its own 7-month exponential moving average, its 20% weight is shifted to 3-month US Treasury bills. In Fixed Income Exposure, the index allocates to the S&P U.S. Treasury Bond 20 Year Total Return Index, or to 3-month Treasury bills when that index is below its 7-month exponential moving average. Underlying constituent stocks and bonds are held in their parent-index proportions, with the allocation regime and bill substitutions reassessed monthly.

Investment Proposition

Pacer WealthShield ETF (PWS) offers a rules-based, risk-managed allocation that seeks equity participation during uptrends and defensive posture during sustained downturns. The strategy evaluates market trend signals and rotates among higher-beta equity exposures, more defensive equity segments, and risk-off assets such as Treasuries or cash-like instruments when conditions deteriorate, aiming to mitigate drawdowns while remaining investable through a single vehicle. This design can dampen portfolio volatility and reduce sequence-of-returns risk, though it may lag during sharp, V-shaped rebounds or in choppy, range-bound markets where signals whipsaw. PWS can serve as a drawdown-aware core complement for moderate investors, a “sleep-well” sleeve for clients prioritizing smoother equity paths, or a tactical overlay to manage equity beta within models. It suits advisors running risk-managed or objective-based strategies and allocators who prefer systematic guardrails to discretionary market timing. A fund-specific risk to monitor is model-timing sensitivity: frequent signal changes in sideways regimes can elevate turnover and implementation costs, potentially diluting the benefits of risk management when markets lack persistent direction.
