Eligible issues pay fixed coupons (fixed-to-float treated as fixed through first reset) and must be rated at least B3 on a composite agency basis; country risk must be investment grade. The index excludes convertibles and floating-rate issues and removes securities that are called or in default. Constituents are weighted by market value without issuer caps, with standard bond-index treatment of accrued interest, corporate actions, and defeasance. Reconstitution and rebalancing occur monthly at month-end, with additions/deletions based on eligibility as of the rebalancing date; changes take effect on the last calendar day. The design emphasizes broad preferred beta with both retail and institutional structures represented.

Investment Proposition

Invesco Preferred ETF (PGX) provides diversified access to U.S. dollar-denominated preferred securities, focusing on the hybrid segment of corporate capital structures where issuers seek financing stability and investors seek potential income with equity-like risk. The strategy emphasizes fixed-rate and fixed-to-floating preferreds issued largely by financials and other capital-intensive sectors, balancing credit quality with yield potential while acknowledging call and extension features that can affect duration and cash flows. Return drivers primarily include coupon income, credit spread behavior, and interest-rate movements; performance can benefit from stable growth and benign credit conditions, and face headwinds during rapid rate repricings or stress in financials. Typical uses include an income sleeve for multi-asset portfolios, a diversification complement to investment-grade bonds, and a time-segmented bucket aimed at steady distributions. Suitable investors include income-oriented allocators seeking higher coupon potential than traditional bonds, and liability-aware advisors building durable cash-flow ladders. It can be timely when rates stabilize and credit fundamentals are resilient. A key risk to monitor is call and structure complexity, which can alter effective duration and reinvestment outcomes.
