The underlying Dorsey Wright Financials Technical Leaders Index offers a momentum-tilted portfolio of US-listed financial companies drawn from the Nasdaq US Benchmark Index. It restricts eligibility to common stocks in the financials sector that meet the parent index’s investability screens for minimum market cap and trading liquidity, thereby focusing on larger, more actively traded names. Eligible securities are ranked using a proprietary relative-strength (momentum) score based on intermediate- and longer-term price performance versus a representative market benchmark; only stocks with the highest relative-strength rankings are selected, with the index holding at least 30 constituents. Constituents are weighted according to their relative-strength ranking rather than market cap, so higher-ranked names receive larger weights and the index naturally concentrates in the strongest momentum profiles while remaining fully financials-sector-focused. The index is reconstituted and rebalanced quarterly, when momentum scores are recomputed, membership is refreshed and weights are reset, allowing leadership within financials to rotate over time.

Investment Proposition

Invesco Dorsey Wright Financial Momentum ETF (PFI) offers rules-based access to U.S. financials exhibiting sustained relative strength. The strategy applies Dorsey Wright’s momentum discipline across banks, insurers, capital markets, and diversified financials, creating a concentrated, leadership-oriented portfolio that can rotate as conditions evolve. The objective is to participate in persistent trends while using systematic sell triggers to mitigate prolonged weakness, recognizing that turnover may be elevated versus broad financial benchmarks. Return and risk characteristics are shaped by credit conditions, yield-curve dynamics, capital markets activity, and regulatory tone; the approach tends to be supported when economic growth is steady and credit spreads behave, and can be challenged by abrupt rate shifts or liquidity stress. PFI can serve as a sector satellite to tilt a core allocation toward momentum within financials, a tactical sleeve aligned with rate- or credit-sensitive views, or a factor completion tool in multi-sector rotation models. It may suit allocators using systematic sector timing and advisers seeking a transparent momentum tilt. Regimes with clear leadership within financials often favor the fund; whipsaw periods can hamper it. Key risk to monitor: concentration and turnover potentially increasing tracking variability.
