The underlying FTSE US Treasury 3-10 Years Laddered Bond Index offers a laddered intermediate-duration exposure to USD-denominated US Treasury securities. Eligible constituents are public obligations of the US Treasury in USD with time to maturity between 3 and 10 years at the annual rebalance, and at least USD 5 billion outstanding excluding Federal Reserve holdings; variable-rate, fixed-to-floating, index-linked bonds, Treasury bills, stripped zeros, private placements, convertibles, savings bonds, dual currency and retail-directed issues are excluded. At each annual February rebalance, the index assigns equal weights to seven one-year maturity rungs spanning 3–10 years; the shortest rung drops out, remaining rungs roll down by one year, and a new longest rung is added, with the weight of any empty rung redistributed equally among the others. Bonds within each rung are weighted by market value, and monthly reconstitutions admit new eligible issues and reweight within rungs while keeping rung weights constant.

Investment Proposition

Global X Intermediate-Term Treasury Ladder ETF (MLDR) provides targeted access to a rules-based ladder of U.S. Treasury notes spanning the intermediate maturity band. The strategy spreads exposure across defined rungs and systematically rolls maturities, seeking to balance rate sensitivity with regular principal repayments that can be redeployed as the curve evolves. By focusing on Treasury obligations, the fund aims to minimize credit risk while concentrating decisions around duration and curve positioning rather than issuer selection. In practice, the ladder can dampen timing risk around single maturity bets and smooth reinvestment over cycles, though returns remain sensitive to parallel and non-parallel yield-curve shifts. MLDR can serve as a core high-quality bond building block, a duration-managed ballast in risk-parity or multi-asset sleeves, or a dry-powder reserve that periodically frees cash for redeployment. Suitable investors include outcome-focused allocators seeking interest-rate diversification within investment-grade quality, and liability-aware investors managing intermediate-duration targets. A fund-specific risk to monitor is reinvestment risk if roll-down benefits diminish or the curve inverts for extended periods, potentially reducing ladder efficacy.
