The underlying Franklin International Low Volatility High Dividend Hedged Index offers a developed ex-U.S. equity portfolio constructed from MSCI World ex USA IMI. Eligible stocks must be profitable; candidates are scored on a “stable yield” measure that starts with dividend yield and adjusts downward for higher price and earnings volatility, and for countries with higher policy rates versus the U.S. to reflect the implicit cost of currency hedging. The index then solves for weights that maximize the stable-yield score subject to capacity and diversification constraints: single-stock ≤2.5%, sector ≤25%, country ≤15%, region ≤50%, and aggregate REITs ≤15%. The index fully hedges foreign-currency exposure to USD at the index level. Constituents are reconstituted annually and rebalanced quarterly, with additional liquidity and turnover controls applied during optimization.

Investment Proposition

Franklin International Low Volatility High Dividend Index ETF (LVHI) provides exposure to developed ex-U.S. equities emphasizing companies that combine higher cash distributions with historically steadier share price behavior and durable earnings profiles. The rules-based methodology tilts toward sectors and regions where dividend sustainability and balance-sheet resilience are prevalent, seeking to moderate drawdowns while maintaining equity income potential. Portfolio construction favors diversified position sizes and systematic rebalancing to keep factor exposures aligned, resulting in a defensive equity sleeve that can complement growth-oriented holdings. Return drivers are primarily dividends and quality/low-volatility premia, with performance typically more resilient in late-cycle or risk-off phases and challenged during sharp, high-beta rallies. Investors may use the fund as a satellite income allocation, a defensive international equity tilt, or a “sleep-well” capital bucket within multi-asset mandates. Suitable profiles include outcome-oriented allocators seeking smoother equity participation and income-focused investors wanting non-U.S. diversification. Key risk to monitor is concentration in yield-rich segments that can lag during cyclical bursts or face interest-rate sensitivity, as well as the potential for turnover around periodic rebalances.
