The underlying FTSE US Treasury 10-30 Years Laddered Bond Index offers a laddered, long-duration exposure to USD-denominated US Treasury bonds. Eligible securities are public obligations of the US Treasury denominated in USD, with time to maturity between 10 and 30 years at the annual rebalance date and a minimum amount outstanding, excluding Federal Reserve holdings, of USD 5 billion; variable-rate, fixed-to-floating, index-linked issues, Treasury bills, stripped zeros, private placements, convertibles, savings bonds, dual currency and retail-directed bonds are excluded. At each annual February rebalance, the index allocates equal weights to twenty one-year maturity “rungs” spanning 10–30 years; the shortest rung rolls off, remaining rungs shift down by one year, and a new longest rung is introduced, with any empty rung’s weight redistributed equally across the others. Within each rung, eligible bonds are weighted by market value, and monthly reconstitutions add new issues and reset intra-rung weights while keeping allocations unchanged.

Investment Proposition

Global X Long-Term Treasury Ladder ETF (LLDR) provides targeted exposure to long-duration U.S. Treasuries arranged in a ladder that seeks to balance maturity profiles while maintaining material interest-rate sensitivity. The strategy emphasizes government credit quality and a systematic allocation across rungs that roll and refresh over time, aiming to smooth reinvestment timing and capture potential curve “roll-down” effects as bonds age. Core risks are dominated by duration rather than credit, so income is mainly coupon-driven and total return is highly responsive to shifts in growth and inflation expectations. The fund can behave defensively when disinflation builds or risk assets sell off, yet it can be challenged during rapid hiking phases or unexpected term-premium rises. Potential uses include a duration sleeve within multi-asset or risk-parity frameworks, a drawdown ballast alongside equities and credit, and a liability-aware bucket for investors seeking transparent government exposure. Suitable investors include asset allocators looking to calibrate long-end rate sensitivity, and advisors implementing bond-ladder concepts with daily liquidity. A key risk to monitor is elevated mark-to-market volatility inherent in concentrated long-duration exposure.
