The underlying S&P Global 1200 Consumer Staples Sector Capped Index delivers float-adjusted, market-cap representation of all Global Industry Classification Standard Consumer Staples constituents within the S&P Global 1200. Eligibility and investability flow from the parent index’s large-cap universe and free float methodology; sector membership is determined strictly by GICS. Constituents are weighted by free-float market cap, then modified to meet UCITS-style diversification: no single company exceeds 10% and the aggregate weight of companies individually above 5% is constrained to 40% at each rebalance, with standard buffers to reduce turnover. The index follows the parent’s corporate-action treatment and inclusion maintenance, and it inherits broad country coverage while avoiding overconcentration via the capping mechanics alone rather than explicit country caps. Reconstitution/rebalancing occurs quarterly, aligning to the Global 1200 review cycle, with changes effective after the scheduled March, June, September and December rebalances.

Investment Proposition

iShares Global Consumer Staples ETF (KXI) provides diversified access to non-cyclical companies that sell everyday goods and household necessities across developed and emerging markets. The strategy emphasizes broad, capitalization-aware exposure to staple subsectors such as food, beverage, personal care, household products, and select tobacco names, seeking steady cash-flow profiles and comparatively resilient margins through the cycle. Characteristics often include a defensive, quality-leaning style with moderate income potential from regular dividends, tempered by sensitivity to valuation premiums when risk appetite is strong. Results can lag in sharp risk-on phases or during periods of rapid rate moves that compress defensive multiples, yet the group tends to hold up better when growth slows or volatility rises. In portfolios, it can serve as a defensive equity sleeve, a “sleep-well” capital allocation, or a drawdown buffer alongside cyclicals. Suitable investors include conservatively positioned allocators seeking stability and multi-asset managers aiming to complete factor exposure toward defensives and quality. A key risk to monitor is sector concentration and associated valuation stretching that can dampen forward return potential if fundamentals disappoint.
