The underlying Solactive ISS Sustainable Select 0-1 Year USD Corporate IG Index targets USD-denominated, investment-grade corporate bonds with remaining maturity ≤1 year that are members of a broad USD IG 0–1 year benchmark. Constituents must pass ISS ESG screens that exclude norm violations and controversial weapons and apply activity thresholds (e.g., any revenue from coal or fossil-fuel production, and defined limits for alcohol, gambling, firearms, and adult entertainment). Additional exclusions remove issuers with strongly negative SDG impacts. Weights are set via an optimization that simultaneously enforces carbon-footprint and EVIC-normalized intensity limits consistent with a ≥7% annual self-decarbonization path (reset each January and July), while minimizing turnover and preserving benchmark-like risk across rating, maturity, issuer, and sector. A 10 bps minimum position size prevents zero-weights. Membership is reviewed each Selection Day and implemented on the Rebalance Day; ordinary rebalances follow Solactive’s bond index procedures.

Investment Proposition

KraneShares Sustainable Ultra Short Duration Index ETF (KCSH) offers an ESG-integrated approach to ultra-short, investment-grade corporate credit designed to preserve capital and provide steady income with limited interest-rate sensitivity. The strategy tracks a rules-based universe emphasizing very short maturities and high-quality issuers while applying sustainability criteria aligned with climate-focused objectives, resulting in a portfolio oriented toward minimal duration and controlled credit risk. Return drivers are primarily carry and spread compression rather than duration moves, with performance more tied to corporate balance-sheet health, funding conditions, and front-end policy expectations. In practice, the fund can serve as a cash management or sweep vehicle, a dry-powder sleeve for opportunistic redeployment, or a stability anchor to temper equity volatility without fully leaving risk assets. Suitable profiles include income-oriented allocators seeking low-volatility cash alternatives and multi-asset managers aiming to fine-tune liquidity buckets while maintaining ESG considerations. Key risk to monitor is credit-spread widening in stress scenarios, which can pressure net asset value despite short duration, alongside potential liquidity frictions in short-dated corporates during market dislocations.
