The underlying Russell Top 200 Growth Index targets the largest U.S. companies by selecting the Top 200 from the Russell 3000E at annual reconstitution, then assigning growth style using FTSE Russell’s non-linear probability model. Growth assignment is based on a composite where book-to-price (value) forms 50% of the style score’s opposite pole and two growth measures—I/B/E/S medium-term (two-year) earnings growth and five-year sales-per-share growth—jointly form the other 50%. Securities can be proportionally split between value and growth; a 95%/5% small-weight cutoff shifts tiny cross-style slivers to a single side, and a ±0.10 composite-score band reduces turnover. Constituents are weighted by free-float market cap and maintained with quarterly updates for shares/float and IPO adds; the standard Russell US Style indexes apply a periodic capping methodology to limit single-issuer and large-issuer concentration. Annual reconstitution is implemented after the close on the fourth Friday in June.

Investment Proposition

iShares Russell Top 200 Growth ETF (IWY) delivers a targeted mega-cap growth tilt, concentrating on companies with elevated growth characteristics among the largest U.S. issuers. The approach follows a rules-based selection and weighting that favors higher expected growth and profitability metrics, with inherently low turnover versus active styles. The portfolio naturally embodies longer-duration cash flows, stronger reinvestment runways, and lower baseline income, alongside momentum and quality growth traits. It tends to be most sensitive to changes in discount rates and risk appetite: easing financial conditions, benign inflation and innovation-led cycles often favor the sleeve, whereas sharp rate rises or rotations into value and cyclicals can challenge relative results. As a portfolio tool, IWY works as a growth-tilt satellite around a broad core, a tactical overlay when policy pivots or productivity themes emerge, or a factor-completion sleeve for investors underweight secular growers. It most suits growth-oriented allocators and practitioners running barbell frameworks that offset value or dividend exposures. A fund-specific risk is style concentration—extended leadership can magnify drawdowns if growth valuations de-rate.
