The underlying S-Network International BlackSwan Index targets international equity exposure to MSCI EAFE via options while holding a laddered portfolio of intermediate US Treasuries. The index models a fixed USD 100 million notional portfolio split between June and December 70-delta LEAP or FLEX call options on the EFA ETF and 10-year US Treasury notes. At each June and December selection date, it identifies call options on EFA with at least one year plus one day to expiration; if a precise 70-delta is unavailable, the closest higher delta is used. On each weight date, 5% of notional is allocated to a new options tranche, with any existing tranche retaining its drifted weight; the remaining notional is invested in Treasuries maturing between 5 and 10 years, selling bonds with <5 years remaining and buying new on-the-run issues as needed. Rebalances occur semi-annually, with timing rules that accelerate reconstitution to the fourth business day of the rebalancing month if the option overlay is at a net loss, otherwise roughly one year plus one day after the prior rebalance.

Investment Proposition

Amplify BlackSwan ISWN ETF (ISWN) presents an international developed-markets take on the BlackSwan concept, pairing a core of U.S. Treasuries with long-dated in-the-money calls on broad non-U.S. developed equities. The objective is to capture a share of global equity advances while relying on high-quality duration to help buffer severe downturns, acknowledging that international benchmarks can feature different sector weights, currencies, and valuation regimes than U.S. markets. The methodology typically emphasizes disciplined, rules-based rebalancing to sustain the option exposure through cycles, accepting some performance trade-offs in runaway rallies or very low-volatility climbs. Key characteristics include interest-rate sensitivity, option time-decay management, and potential currency influences embedded in the equity sleeve. ISWN can serve as a defensive international equity substitute, a diversification satellite alongside U.S. risk assets, or a drawdown-aware sleeve within global allocation mandates. Global multi-asset allocators seeking smoother international participation and outcome-focused investors prioritizing downside mitigation are likely users. It tends to be most additive when protection and rate duration are prized or when international markets recover from drawdowns; it may lag during synchronized global melt-ups or rising-rate, range-bound periods. Monitor currency effects and option-roll efficiency.
