The underlying MVIS Indonesia Index targets Indonesian equity exposure by selecting liquid, free-float-adjusted companies with substantial economic links to Indonesia, including locally listed firms and offshore listings or depositary receipts deriving the majority of revenues or assets from the country. The index applies MVIS global investability rules: new constituents must have a full market cap of at least USD 150m, free float or foreign-investor availability of at least 10%, three-month ADTV of at least USD 1m and at least 250,000 shares traded per month; existing members have lower maintenance hurdles. At each quarterly review, eligible names are ranked by free-float market cap, and constituents are chosen to ensure a minimum of roughly 25 stocks covering most of Indonesia’s investable free-float market cap. Constituents are weighted by free-float market cap, with individual weights capped around 8% and excess weight redistributed pro rata.

Investment Proposition

VanEck Indonesia Index ETF (IDX) provides targeted access to Indonesian equities spanning domestically focused and export-oriented businesses. The fund seeks broad market exposure across sectors, reflecting an economy influenced by commodity cycles, infrastructure investment, and a growing consumer base. The strategy pursues country-level beta through a diversified portfolio whose weights evolve with market capitalization, allowing leadership to rotate as corporate fundamentals and sector dynamics shift. Return drivers are tied to earnings growth, terms-of-trade, and currency movements, with sensitivity to global risk sentiment typical of single-country emerging markets. In portfolios, IDX can serve as a satellite EM sleeve to express a country view, a thematic mandate for Southeast Asia exposure, or a tactical overlay to adjust commodity and currency tilts. Suitable investors include global allocators running country-rotation frameworks and multi-asset managers seeking differentiated EM building blocks alongside regional or broad EM exposures. Regimes featuring firm commodity demand, improving current-account trends, and supportive domestic policy typically help; global risk-off episodes and U.S. dollar strength can be challenging. Key risk to monitor: concentrated single-country exposure that can amplify drawdowns during local policy or liquidity shocks.
