The underlying ICE 2032 Maturity US Treasury Index targets U.S. Treasury notes and bonds maturing between 1 Jan 2032 and 15 Dec 2032. Eligible securities are fixed-rate, nominal Treasuries; TIPS, bills/cash-management bills, STRIPS and agency debt are excluded. Constituents must meet a minimum outstanding size and are float-adjusted by reducing amounts held in the Federal Reserve SOMA account; new issues must settle by month-end to enter at the next rebalancing. Members are market-value weighted (amount outstanding × price accrued interest). The index rebalances and reconstitutes monthly on the last calendar day using data through a lockout date. From 30 Jun 2032, coupon and maturity proceeds are retained as a growing cash position rather than reinvested, and the index subsequently winds down as remaining bonds mature toward its terminal date.

Investment Proposition

iShares iBonds Dec 2032 Term Treasury ETF (IBTM) delivers a defined-maturity basket of U.S. Treasury bonds set to mature in the stated year, allowing investors to target a specific point on the sovereign yield curve with transparent wind-down mechanics. The fund seeks to track a rules-based portfolio that gradually shortens in duration as constituent bonds age, culminating in fund termination and distribution around year-end. With Treasury backing, credit risk is minimized; interest-rate risk is the dominant factor, declining as maturities roll down. Income reflects underlying coupons and can vary over time as holdings change. The structure is well suited to a Treasury ladder, a time-segmented cash bucket for known liabilities, or a dry-powder sleeve earmarked for redeployment at a defined date. Institutions and advisors running duration-controlled core bond allocations or liability-driven strategies can use it to align cash flows with spending horizons. It tends to be favored when investors seek rate exposure without credit risk, and can be challenged during sharp yield-curve shifts. A fund-specific consideration is reinvestment and cash-drag dynamics during the final wind-down period, which may modestly affect realized outcomes near termination.
