The underlying ICE 2030 Maturity US Inflation-Linked Treasury Index offers exposure to USD-denominated U.S. Treasury inflation-protected securities scheduled to mature between January 1, 2030 and October 15, 2030. Bonds must have ≥USD 1 billion outstanding face value excluding Federal Reserve System Open Market Account (SOMA) holdings, a fixed coupon schedule, and >1 day remaining term at the month-end rebalance. Government agency debt, retail-focused issues, floating rate notes, cash management and Treasury bills, original-issue zero-coupon securities, and Separate Trading of Registered Interest and Principal Securities (STRIPs) are excluded, while post-inclusion stripping does not reduce outstanding amounts. Constituents are determined mechanically by the maturity-date window and updated monthly; new issues must settle by the next month-end rebalance to enter for that month. Weights are full market-value weights based on (face value net of SOMA)×(price accrued interest), with accrued interest on next-day settlement. Coupon and principal cash is held intra-month, earns no reinvestment return, and is removed at rebalance, increasing remaining weights pro rata.

Investment Proposition

iShares iBonds Oct 2030 Term TIPS ETF (IBIG) delivers a defined-maturity approach to U.S. Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, offering the inflation adjustment of TIPS with a scheduled wind-down that seeks to return proceeds as underlying bonds mature in the target year. The portfolio aims for real return by holding a basket of TIPS that naturally shortens over time, focusing interest-rate exposure around the remaining years to maturity while avoiding perpetual turnover. Income stems from coupons and inflation accretion, and the fund’s quality profile reflects full-faith-and-credit backing, with factor characteristics dominated by real-rate duration rather than credit beta. IBIG can function as a satellite inflation hedge, a rung within a multi-year TIPS ladder, or a dedicated time-bucket aligned to future liabilities or spending needs. It is most constructive when inflation expectations firm or when investors value duration anchored to a specific horizon; it can face headwinds during abrupt increases in real yields or disinflationary shifts favoring nominals. Suitable users include liability-minded institutions and financial planners implementing bucketed retirement income. Key risk: approaching maturity may increase concentration and reduce secondary-market liquidity in remaining holdings.
