The underlying ICE 2027 Maturity US Inflation-Linked Treasury Index offers exposure to USD-denominated U.S. Treasury inflation-protected securities scheduled to mature between January 1, 2027 and October 15, 2027. Bonds must have ≥USD 1 billion outstanding face value excluding Federal Reserve System Open Market Account (SOMA) holdings, a fixed coupon schedule, and >1 day remaining term at the month-end rebalance. Government agency debt, retail-focused issues, floating rate notes, cash management and Treasury bills, original-issue zero-coupon securities, and Separate Trading of Registered Interest and Principal Securities (STRIPs) are excluded, while post-inclusion stripping does not reduce outstanding amounts. Constituents are determined mechanically by the maturity-date window and updated monthly; new issues must settle by the next month-end rebalance to enter for that month. Weights are full market-value weights based on (face value net of SOMA)×(price accrued interest), with accrued interest on next-day settlement. Coupon and principal cash is held intra-month, earns no reinvestment return, and is removed at rebalance, increasing remaining weights pro rata.

Investment Proposition

iShares iBonds Oct 2027 Term TIPS ETF (IBID) targets an intermediate-dated set of Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities that converge on a specified year, providing a blend of real-rate exposure and inflation-linked income with low credit risk. The philosophy centers on defined-horizon inflation protection, allowing investors to calibrate duration and inflation sensitivity along a ladder while reducing reliance on active macro timing. Compared with near-term maturities, characteristics include higher responsiveness to moves in real yields and inflation expectations, which can add return potential when inflation risk is repriced upward but can weigh on performance when disinflation takes hold or real yields back up. Use cases include a satellite allocation for inflation-aware growth within a core fixed income framework, a liability bucket for mid-range obligations, and a factor-completion sleeve to balance nominal duration with real assets. Suitable investors include multi-asset allocators seeking diversified real-rate exposure and institutions building time-segmented portfolios. A key fund-specific risk is the concentration and turnover around the target year, which may affect trading spreads and reinvestment decisions as the portfolio nears its end date.
