The investment strategy underpinning the actively managed NEOS Gold High Income ETF seeks high monthly income with gold-linked total-return potential by combining direct and synthetic exposure to exchange-traded products that hold physical gold with an options overlay. The portfolio may invest up to 25% of total assets in a Cayman subsidiary to hold Gold ETPs and otherwise builds synthetic long exposure by pairing purchased calls with sold puts on Gold ETPs; listed FLEX options cleared by OCC are anticipated to dominate implementation. A systematic call-writing program overwrites roughly half to all of net assets to monetize volatility and fund distributions, capping upside beyond strike levels. U.S. Treasury collateral supports derivatives exposure and income. Position sizing reflects notional exposure (≥80% in Gold ETPs and/or options, measured by notional). Rebalancing centers on rolling option ladders, maintaining target overwrite and synthetic exposure; calls are trimmed/rolled as strikes are approached or to reset income targets and risk.

Investment Proposition

NEOS Gold High Income ETF (IAUI) targets high monthly income and exposure to gold by investing in exchange-traded products linked to the metal and applying a systematic options overlay. The approach seeks to pair gold’s defensive, scarcity-driven characteristics with volatility harvesting around price moves, aiming to provide cash flows while retaining participation in longer-term trends. Portfolio construction emphasizes liquidity and transparent vehicles, with active management focused on maintaining targeted gold exposure and prudently managing option structures through market cycles. Key characteristics include sensitivity to real rates, the U.S. dollar, and risk-aversion episodes, where gold can act as a diversifier; however, in strong, persistent rallies the overlay may temper upside, and in prolonged disinflationary, rising-real-yield regimes gold can lag. Portfolio roles include an inflation/deflation hedge within real-asset sleeves, a crisis-alpha diversifier for drawdown mitigation, and a satellite for income-oriented commodity exposure. Suitable investors include allocators seeking to pair strategic gold with a distribution objective and multi-asset managers using real-asset buckets for policy-mix diversification. A key risk to monitor is basis and overlay risk, where option positioning and ETP structure can introduce performance differentials versus spot gold.
