The universe excludes government, quasi-sovereign, municipal, most private placements, convertibles, floaters, zeros and perpetuals. From the broad Solactive USD High Yield Corporates Total Market universe, bonds must have a valid sector tag and a 30-day average yield-to-worst above their sector median to enter; they are deleted if that average falls below 95% of the median or they leave the parent index. Constituents are market-value-weighted with an iterative 3% issuer cap and the index rebalances monthly on the last business day.

Investment Proposition

Xtrackers High Beta High Yield Bond ETF (HYUP) offers targeted exposure to higher-beta segments of U.S. below-investment-grade credit, emphasizing issuers and structures that historically exhibit greater spread sensitivity and cyclical upside. The strategy pursues enhanced income and total-return potential by leaning into credit risk while maintaining a diversified, rules-based allocation designed to reflect its high-beta profile over time. Resulting characteristics generally include stronger participation in risk-on phases, higher drawdown risk in stress, and meaningful responsiveness to changes in growth and financing conditions. Income derives primarily from coupon carry, with price appreciation tied to spread compression during improving credit backdrops. Representative use cases include a tactical overlay to amplify credit beta, a satellite income sleeve for investors comfortable with variability, and factor completion for portfolios underexposed to high yield risk. Suitable investors include outcome-oriented allocators seeking opportunistic income and multi-asset managers employing explicit risk-on/risk-off sleeves. The approach can benefit from accelerating growth, contained default expectations, and supportive liquidity; it may be challenged by abrupt tightening in financial conditions. Key risk to monitor: concentration toward lower-rated or more leveraged issuers may raise sensitivity to refinancing windows and market depth.
