The underlying MSCI All Greece Select 25/50 Index offers broad Greece equity exposure with explicit investability and diversification controls. Starting from the MSCI All Greece universe, candidates must have free-float market cap ≥USD 200 million and 3-month Annualized Traded Value ≥USD 25 million; existing members use relaxed buffers (≥USD 100 million and ≥USD 18.75 million) to limit turnover. The index targets at least 15 issuers and applies MSCI’s 25/50 constraints via optimization: no single issuer >25% and the aggregate of issuers >5% ≤50% (implemented with 22.5%/45% buffers at each rebalance). Weights are set to minimize deviation from the parent index while honoring the concentration limits and group-entity rules. Reviews occur quarterly (February, May, August, November) in line with MSCI’s global schedule; additions/deletions reflect parent-index changes and the investability screens.

Investment Proposition

Global X MSCI Greece ETF (GREK) provides targeted access to Greece’s equity market, offering a liquid vehicle for allocating to the country’s domestically oriented and export-linked companies. The strategy seeks to replicate a broad, float-adjusted, market-cap basket of Greek listings, which naturally concentrates exposure in sectors tied to the local credit cycle, tourism, consumer demand, and essential services. Returns can be cyclical, with sensitivity to European growth, financing conditions, and reforms that influence investment and privatization activity, while currency adds an additional driver versus U.S.-based portfolios. Investors should expect value and quality tilts to ebb and flow as banks, utilities, and consumer names rotate in leadership, and recognize that narrow market breadth can elevate both upside and drawdown potential. In portfolios, GREK can serve as a satellite country sleeve, a tactical overlay for views on peripheral Europe, or a targeted diversifier within a broader international equity allocation. Suitable users include top-down allocators running regional rotations and global multi-asset investors seeking idiosyncratic country risk. A key risk to monitor is single-country concentration, which can amplify volatility and liquidity frictions during stress.
