The underlying Solactive Gold-Backed Bond Index provides combined exposure to USD-denominated investment grade corporate bonds and a systematic gold futures overlay. The bond sleeve references a Solactive corporate universe of fixed-rate, USD investment grade issues with typical minimum size of 400 million USD outstanding and remaining maturity of at least 18 months, excluding non-corporate, hybrid and subordinated structures that would impair comparability. Bonds are market value weighted and refreshed monthly for new issues and deletions. In parallel, a gold component takes a long position in front-month COMEX gold futures, rolling into the next liquid contract on a regular monthly schedule. Each month, the notional of the gold futures is reset to approximately 100% of the market value of the bond basket, so the index delivers full corporate bond beta plus an equal notional gold hedge.

Investment Proposition

Strategy Shares Gold-Hedged Bond ETF (GLDB) delivers a combined exposure to investment-grade corporate bonds with a systematic gold overlay implemented via derivatives, seeking to pair bond income with potential inflation hedging from gold price movements. The portfolio emphasizes high-quality, U.S. dollar bonds, applying liquidity and risk screens, while maintaining a separate gold component designed to reflect near-term gold pricing dynamics without requiring direct metal custody. This blend can produce interest-rate and credit sensitivities typical of quality corporate debt while introducing a commodity-linked return stream that may offset real-rate shocks or currency debasement concerns. Investors can use GLDB as a diversified income sleeve with an embedded inflation hedge, as an alternative to managing separate bond and gold allocations, or as a tactical overlay during periods of rising inflation uncertainty. It may suit outcome-oriented allocators seeking income stability with real-asset ballast, and multi-asset managers implementing risk-balanced exposures across growth and inflation regimes. It can be favored when inflation risk is elevated or when gold acts as a diversifier to credit beta, and may be challenged if gold and credit sell off simultaneously. One fund-specific risk is overlay complexity, where derivative structure and costs can dilute intended hedging efficacy.
