The underlying LibertyQ US Large Cap Equity Index provides a Russell 1000-based multifactor portfolio built quarterly (Mar/Jun/Sep/Dec; June aligned to Russell’s annual reconstitution). Securities with benchmark weight ≥1% are automatically included; from the remainder, the top 20% by composite z-score (40% Quality, 30% Value, 30% Momentum) are selected using descriptor-based z-scores (winsorized at ±3) mapped to [0,1]. Final weights are proportional to parent index weight × factor score, then tempered by buffers: 50% selection buffer around the 20% target, a 50% turnover buffer (move halfway toward target weights), and stock-level caps floored/ceiled relative to the benchmark [min max of (benchmark−1%, 0.1%) / min of (benchmark 1%, 10× benchmark)]. Corporate actions and additions/removals follow Russell timing.

Investment Proposition

Franklin U.S. Large Cap Multifactor Index ETF (FLQL) delivers broad U.S. large-cap exposure with a systematic tilt toward multiple rewarded characteristics, seeking to improve risk-adjusted outcomes versus a purely capitalization-weighted approach. Its methodology typically integrates quality, value, momentum, and lower-volatility signals, balancing exposures so no single factor dominates across regimes, with periodic reconstitution to adapt to changing fundamentals and trends. This construction can dampen drawdowns relative to pro-cyclical tilts while preserving participation in recoveries, though it may trail markets led narrowly by a single style cohort. Resulting style and sector footprints evolve as signals rotate, aiding factor diversification and potentially moderating cyclicality through the business cycle. Portfolio roles include a core equity anchor with embedded factor balance, a factor-completion sleeve complementing existing style tilts, and a disciplined framework for long-horizon allocators seeking systematic exposure. Suitable investor profiles include institutional multi-asset teams implementing risk-budgeted cores and wealth managers building evidence-based portfolios. It can be timely when leadership broadens or when single-style dominance fades; it can be challenged during prolonged, one-factor rallies. Key risk to monitor is factor-crowding or extended periods when one style outperforms persistently.
