Credit quality is based on the middle Moody’s, S&P and Fitch rating; the lower of two or sole available rating applies when coverage is incomplete. Coupons must reset quarterly to compounded overnight SOFR, or qualifying term SOFR fallbacks for legacy notes, and may include spread steps or floors. Senior, subordinated, bullet and callable issues qualify; fixed-to-floating, equity-linked, securitized, inflation-linked, capped, collared, inverse and unquoted securities are excluded. Bonds are weighted by current par multiplied by the sum of price and accrued interest, without issuer caps, and membership resets on the last business day monthly.

Investment Proposition

iShares Floating Rate Bond ETF (FLOT) offers short-maturity, investment-grade floating-rate notes whose coupons reset with prevailing short-term rates, targeting limited interest-rate duration while providing income tied to policy and money-market benchmarks. The index-based approach emphasizes diversified corporate issuers and high-quality agency or supranational exposure across a one-month to five-year maturity band, seeking to reduce price sensitivity to rate moves versus fixed-coupon bonds. Returns are driven primarily by coupon resets and credit spreads; the fund tends to hold up relatively well when rates rise or are volatile, and may lag longer-duration credit during pronounced rate-cut cycles. It can serve as cash management with potential income uplift, a defensive fixed-income sleeve to dampen duration risk, or a tactical holding when policy paths are uncertain. Suitable investors include conservative allocators managing liquidity tiers and multi-asset managers balancing duration across cycles. Key risk to monitor: spread and liquidity risk in corporate FRNs—while duration is low, credit conditions can pressure prices and yields, particularly if refinancing windows narrow or issuer fundamentals weaken.
