Investment Proposition

First Trust Japan AlphaDEX Fund (FJP) delivers a rules-based take on Japanese equities that selects and weights companies using fundamental and momentum characteristics across value and growth dimensions. The approach departs from capitalization weighting, seeking to reallocate toward firms exhibiting stronger relative scores on measures such as price momentum and quality-adjacent fundamentals, which can tilt exposures toward cyclicals or mid-sized franchises at times. The resulting portfolio typically carries higher active share versus broad Japan benchmarks, accepting greater tracking error in pursuit of excess return. It tends to benefit when factor dispersion is wide and when value, profitability, or price leadership persist; rapid rotations or narrow mega-cap leadership can challenge outcomes. Use cases include a core-plus Japan sleeve, factor completion within a multi-manager program, or a tactical overlay to diversify away from cap-weighted concentration. Suitable investors include equity strategists running style-aware allocations and global multi-asset teams seeking diversified Japan exposure with systematic tilts. A practical risk to monitor is turnover associated with periodic reconstitutions, which can heighten trading costs and increase the sensitivity of realized results to implementation quality.
