The underlying Fidelity High Dividend Index targets U.S. large- and mid-cap dividend payers drawn primarily from the largest 1,000 U.S. stocks by free-float market cap (after excluding LPs, BDCs, ADRs, funds/UITs, and the bottom quintile by days to trade USD 10m; minimum free float ≥15%). Up to 10% of weight may be allocated to developed-market non-U.S. stocks. Within each GICS sector, each stock receives a composite score: Dividend Yield (70%), Payout Ratio (15%), and Dividend Growth (15%), then is size-neutralized to remove systematic size bias. Selection within each sector follows rank bands (e.g., top decile when sector breadth >100; top quintile for 25–100). Weighting uses an “equal active” scheme: constituents receive their broad-market cap weight plus the same sector-level overweight, and 40% of sector weight is reallocated toward the highest-yielding sectors, subject to the index’s constraints. The index reconstitutes annually.

Investment Proposition

Fidelity High Dividend ETF (FDVV) presents a rules-based exposure to U.S. large-cap companies with comparatively high dividend payments screened for sustainability and business quality. The methodology emphasizes above-market income potential while incorporating fundamentals—such as earnings durability and payout prudence—to mitigate dividend-cut risk. Portfolio construction produces diversified sector representation with natural tilts toward mature cash-generative industries, and periodic rebalancing helps maintain intended income characteristics without excessive turnover. Resulting factor exposures typically include dividend yield, value, and quality, with sensitivity to interest-rate moves that influence relative performance of income-oriented equities. FDVV can function as an income sleeve within multi-asset income strategies, a core equity allocation for cash-flow-focused mandates, or a stabilizing complement to growth-heavy portfolios seeking balance between yield and total return. It tends to benefit when rates are stable or declining and investors prize defensiveness and cash distributions; it may lag in speculative risk-on phases favoring low- or no-yield growth. Suitable users include retirement-oriented allocators prioritizing consistent cash flows and wealth managers building dividend-centric models. A key fund-specific risk to monitor is sector concentration in yield-rich areas, which can amplify regime and rate-cycle impacts.
