The underlying Fidelity Cloud Computing Index targets companies whose revenues are tied to cloud infrastructure, platforms, or software. The universe is common stock on developed markets and, for emerging markets, stocks in the top 70th percentile of local market cap, excluding non-operating vehicles such as funds and partnerships. Securities must have market cap ≥ USD 250 million, six-month ADV ≥ USD 1.25 million and free float ≥15%. A quality filter requires at least two of four tests: revenues ≥ USD 100 million, coverage by ≥2 analysts, improving operating cash flow, or ≥10% sales growth. Eligible names receive a thematic score based on cloud-related revenues and natural-language processing of information, and 50 highest-scoring stocks are selected. Constituents are weighted by the cube root of free-float market cap and then optimized with hard limits including a 22.5% cap per stock and a 45% cap on positions above 4.5%. The index rebalances quarterly.

Investment Proposition

Fidelity Cloud Computing ETF (FCLD) offers targeted exposure to companies enabling and benefiting from the migration of computing resources to on-demand, internet-delivered services. The strategy tracks a rules-based basket of global firms across infrastructure, platforms, security, data management, and developer tooling, emphasizing businesses whose revenues are tied to cloud adoption rather than broad tech beta. The approach seeks growth by maintaining a focused, thematically concentrated portfolio with periodic reconstitution, accepting higher idiosyncratic and sector risk in exchange for greater purity to the theme. Return drivers lean toward innovation, software and services margin scalability, and recurring-revenue models; factor tilts typically skew to growth and quality, with sensitivity to interest-rate moves and equity risk appetite. In portfolios, FCLD can serve as a satellite growth sleeve, a thematic mandate for digital transformation, or a factor-completion tool to increase secular-growth exposure. Suitable investors include allocators running core-satellite frameworks seeking targeted technology tilts, and thematic specialists aiming to express views on cloud adoption across cycles. Cloud spending upcycles and benign rate backdrops are favorable; value rotations and tightening financial conditions are headwinds. Key risk to monitor: concentration in a single innovation theme.
