The underlying MSCI Poland IMI 25/50 Index delivers free float-adjusted market-cap exposure to Polish large, mid and small caps from the MSCI Poland Investable Market Index, applying MSCI’s investability rules: minimum free float ≥15%, foreign room ≥15%, and 12-month ATVR liquidity thresholds for Emerging Markets (with 2/3 retention buffers for existing constituents). Size-segment buffers keep continuity around market-cap cutoffs. A quarterly 25/50 capping optimization minimizes tracking error to the IMI while enforcing RIC constraints: no issuer (group entity) >25% and the sum of issuers >5% ≤50%, implemented with rebalance buffers at 22.5% and 4.5% to avoid interim breaches. The index remains market-cap weighted subject to these caps and is reviewed with MSCI’s QIR/SAIR cycle, effective the last business day of February, May, August and November.

Investment Proposition

iShares MSCI Poland ETF (EPOL) offers concentrated access to Polish equities, a market linked to European supply chains and domestic financial deepening. The strategy seeks to mirror a market-cap-weighted basket, keeping portfolio changes largely rule-driven and turnover anchored to periodic rebalances. Return characteristics often reflect financials, industrials, and utilities exposure, creating cyclicality to European growth, local rate policy, and regulated pricing frameworks. Style behavior may rotate between value and quality factors depending on margins, currency, and input costs, with small bouts of defensiveness via utilities in late-cycle phases. In portfolios, EPOL can function as a satellite country tilt within broader emerging- or Europe-ex-core sleeves, or as a tactical overlay to express views on regional manufacturing competitiveness and real-rate trends. Investors most likely to use it include global allocators implementing systematic country selection and active EM managers seeking deliberate Central European exposure without reshaping a core position. A fund-specific risk to watch is currency and policy sensitivity—zloty volatility and regulatory decisions can transmit quickly into equity pricing and relative sector performance.
