The underlying Distillate International Fundamental Stability & Value Index provides a concentrated, rules-based portfolio of non-US large- and mid-cap equities selected on leverage, cash-flow stability, and valuation. It begins with an “Equity Universe” of companies headquartered outside the United States with market cap ≥5 billion USD, at least five years of cash-flow-per-share data, ADTV ≥20 million USD over the last 90 days, and acceptable minimum-lot sizes; this universe is reset each 15 December with existing constituents grandfathered. Highly levered issuers are excluded via a proprietary debt-to-income test. The least stable two-thirds of companies on a cash-flow-volatility measure are removed, then the 100 highest free-cash-flow-yield names form the index, with 130-name and 70% buffers on valuation, size, and liquidity thresholds. Regional weights are capped at 150% of each region’s share of global ex-US large/mid market cap, and a separate 8% cap applies to a Brazil–Malaysia–South Korea–Taiwan–Thailand block. Constituents are reweighted using two-thirds equal weight and one-third cash-flow-proportional weight, with a 3% single-stock cap and a turnover floor of 0.25% on weight changes, and the index reconstitutes quarterly after the fifth business day of January, April, July, and October.

Investment Proposition

Distillate International Fundamental Stability & Value ETF (DSTX) delivers an actively managed approach to developed ex-U.S. equities that emphasizes cash-flow-based valuation and business durability. The process seeks companies with resilient free-cash generation, conservative leverage, and transparent accounting, aiming to avoid traditional value traps by normalizing profitability and capital intensity across industries. This quality-value orientation can provide a defensive cushion in late-cycle slowdowns while retaining upside when fundamentals—not headline narratives—drive returns; conversely, momentum-led markets or speculative surges can leave the discipline trailing more cyclical or leveraged peers. Portfolio construction typically balances diversification with a willingness to differ from broad indexes by sector and country to preserve factor purity, and turnover reflects ongoing reassessment of stability and valuation. Use cases include a core/satellite sleeve to upgrade quality within international allocations or a factor-completion role to complement growth-heavy exposures. Suitable investors include allocators pursuing repeatable, fundamentals-first selection and wealth managers seeking to temper behavioral and accounting distortions abroad. A key risk is active selection concentration: persistent style headwinds or sector underweights can drive meaningful tracking differences versus broad international benchmarks.
