The underlying Zacks Mid-Cap Core Index targets a 100-stock U.S. mid-cap portfolio using a rules-driven selection from common stocks, ADRs, MLPs, and BDCs, excluding Canadian listings. The investable universe is defined by market-cap rank bands: names between the 7th and 25th percentiles by market cap of the eligible universe are treated as mid-cap candidates. From this set, the methodology removes the 20% with the highest long-term earnings-growth rates and then the 10% with the highest P/E ratios to temper valuation risk; remaining stocks are ranked by short interest, selecting the 100 with the lowest short interest. Constituents are weighted by free-float market cap without explicit sector or issuer caps. The index reconstitutes and rebalances quarterly, effective the second business day after the last trading day of March, June, September, and December, with corporate-action-driven special rebalances as needed.

Investment Proposition

Invesco Zacks Mid-Cap ETF (CZA) offers systematic exposure to U.S. mid-cap equities selected via a quantitative discipline emphasizing companies with favorable earnings-related characteristics and quality screens. The approach seeks to harness the mid-cap segment’s balance between growth potential and business maturity, using periodic reconstitution to keep alignment with the underlying selection signals while preserving broad diversification across sectors. Resulting exposures often tilt toward positive revisions, profitability, and cash-flow resilience, which can support downside mitigation relative to more speculative segments but still embed meaningful economic sensitivity. The strategy can operate as a mid-cap core or completion sleeve within a style-box framework, or as a targeted factor tilt toward quality and earnings momentum inside multi-manager portfolios. It suits asset allocators prioritizing systematic rules and advisors seeking to moderate single-stock risk without diluting mid-cap characteristics. Environments featuring improving earnings breadth and stable financial conditions tend to favor the approach, while widespread estimate downgrades or sharp leadership rotations can be more challenging. A fund-specific risk to monitor is model-driven concentration and sector drift that may emerge from synchronized signals, which can increase active risk versus broad mid-cap universes.
