The underlying MSCI ACWI IMI Timber Select Capped Index provides global equity exposure to companies whose businesses are tied to forests, timberlands and timber-based products. The index is derived from the MSCI ACWI Investable Market Indexes, covering large, mid and small caps across developed and emerging markets, but restricts membership to constituents classified in the Forest Products, Paper Products, Paper Packaging and timber-focused Specialized REITs subindustries. Eligible securities inherit the parent’s free-float and liquidity screens, and are weighted by free-float-adjusted market cap. At each quarterly index review, coinciding with the parent’s February, May, August and November reviews, any parent deletions are automatically removed, new qualifying additions are incorporated, and issuer weights are capped at 5%, with excess redistributed proportionally. Corporate actions in the parent index flow through contemporaneously, keeping thematic exposure aligned with the underlying timber value chain.

Investment Proposition

Invesco MSCI Global Timber ETF (CUT) offers targeted equity exposure to companies that own or manage forests and timberlands or produce wood-derived products such as lumber, pulp, paper, and engineered materials. The rules-based approach concentrates the portfolio in forestry, paper & packaging, and related real-asset value chains, creating a distinct mix of commodity sensitivity, housing/construction cyclicality, and export demand exposure. Return drivers typically include lumber/pulp pricing, building activity, and operating leverage to sustainably managed timber resources; income characteristics may reflect dividends from established producers and landholders, though payouts vary with cycles. The theme can benefit during reflationary phases, infrastructure and renovation upcycles, and periods when real assets provide diversification against broad equity or inflation shocks; it may lag when construction slows, input costs rise, or global trade decelerates. Portfolio uses include a satellite real-assets sleeve, an inflation-aware diversifier, or a targeted cyclical tilt expressing views on housing and materials. Suitable investors include multi-asset allocators seeking commodity-linked equities and policy-driven sustainability exposure via managed timberlands. Key risk: concentrated industry exposure and sensitivity to commodity and housing cycles can amplify volatility relative to broad equities.
