The underlying BulletShares USD High Yield Corporate Bond 2033 Index targets a single calendar-year slice of the USD high yield corporate bond market. It selects USD-denominated, fixed-rate, taxable corporate issues from developed-market issuers with at least one year to maturity, ratings no higher than BB /Ba1 and minimum USD 200 million outstanding. It excludes most non-vanilla structures and non-registered bonds, and removes distressed issues defined as the highest-yielding 1% by market value with prices below 80; re-entry requires that yield ranking and price both recover. Bonds are allocated to the 2033 index by effective maturity, which can reflect call dates when yield to call is lower than yield to maturity. Constituents are market-value weighted with a 5% issuer cap reset at each monthly rebalance. The index is reconstituted semi-annually and rebalanced monthly, while in the maturity year cash flows are held in 13-week US Treasury bills until index termination at year-end.

Investment Proposition

Invesco BulletShares 2033 High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (BSJX) delivers a defined-maturity exposure to sub-investment-grade corporate debt, seeking higher coupon carry while targeting principal return in the stated year through a rules-based portfolio that winds down over time. The approach concentrates on bonds due near the terminal date, which can help investors pair elevated income potential with a known horizon inside a broader ladder. Performance is driven by credit spreads, default and recovery dynamics, and the path of rates; factor tilts naturally lean toward credit beta and issuer-specific dispersion rather than quality or duration premia. Use cases include a satellite income sleeve, a ladder rung for opportunistic yield seekers, or a tactical overlay when credit risk is being intentionally dialed up for a finite window. Yield-oriented investors comfortable with below-investment-grade risk may integrate it for time-segmented buckets, while multi-asset managers may use it to express a measured high-yield tilt with built-in maturity. It is typically supported by steady growth, contained defaults, and constructive liquidity, and challenged by late-cycle stress, downgrades, or tightening financial conditions. Key risk: heightened default and downgrade sensitivity within a single-year cohort can magnify drawdowns.
