The underlying Nasdaq BulletShares USD High Yield Corporate Bond 2031 Index targets a maturity-defined basket of USD high yield corporate bonds maturing in 2031. Eligible bonds are from issuers domiciled in the U.S., Canada, Western Europe or Japan, pay fixed-rate interest, are rated between BB / Ba1 and CCC-, and have at least USD 200m outstanding at entry (USD 150m for continuing members). Rule 144A issues are allowed, while Reg S, floating-rate, zero-coupon, convertible, inflation-linked and perpetual bonds are excluded. Distressed bonds, defined as those in the highest 1% of yields with prices below 80, are removed. Bonds are assigned to the 2031 cohort using an effective-maturity rule that may substitute near-par call dates for final maturity. Constituents are market-value-weighted with a 5% issuer cap and rebalanced monthly; in the maturity year the index stops adding new issues and gradually winds down as bonds mature or are redeemed.

Investment Proposition

Invesco BulletShares 2031 High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (BSJV) targets below-investment-grade corporate bonds slated to mature or be called in 2031, pursuing income and the potential pull-to-par over a finite horizon. By focusing on a single maturity year, the strategy concentrates credit exposure where spread and default dynamics dominate results, while rate risk remains a secondary but relevant consideration. Sector composition often includes more cyclical industries, which can enhance upside in improving conditions and amplify drawdowns when fundamentals weaken. In a broader allocation, BSJV can serve as a satellite credit-beta sleeve, a time-segmented cash-flow bucket set to conclude in 2031, or a tactical tool for investors seeking defined-horizon high yield rather than open-ended exposure. It tends to be supported by stable funding conditions, resilient earnings, and improving recovery expectations, and can be timely after non-fundamental spread repricing. A fund-specific risk to monitor is capacity and liquidity around a single-year cohort—alongside call/refinancing patterns—which may shift cash-flow timing, affect turnover as bonds exit the eligible universe, and influence realized outcomes relative to initial positioning.
