The underlying Invesco BulletShares Corporate Bond 2031 Index targets USD-denominated, investment-grade corporate bonds maturing in the 2031 calendar year using an “effective maturity” definition that accounts for calls, puts and redemptions. Securities must be SEC-registered, fixed-rate, senior unsecured or senior secured issues from US, Canadian, Western European, Japanese, Singaporean or Australian domiciled issuers; minimum original amount outstanding is USD 500 million (USD 400 million for existing constituents). 144A without registration rights, convertibles, perpetuals, preferreds, step-ups, pay-in-kind, securitized, and bonds with sinking funds are excluded. Bonds are market-value weighted subject to a 5% issuer cap. The index reconstitutes semi-annually (June/December), rebalances monthly, and follows a defined “roll-down” process: cash from maturities and coupons is retained in short-term US Treasury instruments within the index until the final year, supporting liquidity and tracking through maturity.

Investment Proposition

Invesco BulletShares 2031 Corporate Bond ETF (BSCV) delivers a defined-maturity approach to investment-grade corporate bonds expected to mature in 2031, aiming to pair coupon income with the potential pull-to-par as holdings approach final payment. The strategy concentrates exposure in the 2031 term, emphasizing diversified sector representation while accepting the credit-spread dynamics inherent to corporate issuers. Duration is driven by time remaining to 2031, so rate sensitivity is present but often balanced by credit carry; spread moves, downgrade risk, and issuer fundamentals are central drivers. Within portfolios, BSCV can anchor a corporate ladder rung, support liability-matched cash-flow planning for 2031 obligations, or act as a satellite complement to a core aggregate bond sleeve to fine-tune maturity and credit mix. It can be additive when corporate balance sheets are steady and primary markets are functioning smoothly, and may be considered after episodic spread widening that leaves fundamentals intact. A key fund-specific risk to monitor is credit-migration pressure—particularly potential downgrades near maturity—which can influence turnover, liquidity, and realized outcomes relative to initial expectations.
