The underlying ICE U.S. Treasury 3-10 Year Bond Index offers market-value-weighted exposure to intermediate-maturity U.S. government debt. The universe consists of U.S. dollar-denominated, fixed-rate U.S. Treasury notes and bonds issued in the domestic market with remaining maturities strictly greater than three years and less than or equal to ten years. The index excludes Treasury bills, cash-management bills, inflation-linked securities, floating-rate notes, STRIPS, savings bonds and any agency or quasi-sovereign debt. Only benchmark-sized, marketable lines that meet minimum amount-outstanding and standard ICE pricing and liquidity criteria are included; all eligible issues are admitted without ranking. Constituents are weighted in proportion to their market value of outstanding principal, so issuance sizes and the aging of individual bonds drive weights over time. The index is rebalanced monthly at month-end to add new issues, remove matured bonds and drop securities that fall outside the 3–10-year maturity band.

Investment Proposition

JPMorgan BetaBuilders U.S. Treasury Bond 3-10 Year ETF (BBIB) delivers intermediate-term U.S. Treasury exposure intended to balance rate sensitivity with capital-preservation objectives. The strategy systematically holds a diversified set of on-the-run and off-the-run issues across the 3-to-10-year segment, seeking broad representation of this core duration band with rules-based maintenance. Its profile emphasizes high liquidity and government credit quality while tempering the volatility associated with very long maturities. Key characteristics include moderate duration, meaningful—but not extreme—sensitivity to policy-rate paths and inflation expectations, and a coupon profile aligned with the intermediate curve. The fund can operate as a core rates anchor, a barbell complement to shorter or longer holdings, or a transition exposure for de-risking or re-risking fixed income sleeves. It may fit investors pursuing capital-preservation with measured rate beta or managers running laddered or core-plus frameworks. Environments featuring slowing growth with stabilizing inflation often support intermediate Treasuries; sustained reflation or rapid repricing of policy expectations can be more challenging. A key risk to monitor is curve-shift and roll dynamics, as persistent steepening or flattening can influence realized returns relative to expectations for this maturity band.
