Eligibility applies Morningstar’s TME rules: free float ≥10%; liquidity screens based on traded-value metrics (AMDTV, low-month MDTV, and AMTR relative to float market value); and a dynamic Minimum Equity Market Cap Cutoff set at the full-market-cap level corresponding to 99% cumulative free-float coverage, with each security’s company full market cap > that cutoff and its float market cap > 50% of it. Countries apply size breakpoints so the index targets the top 85% by free-float market cap within each market, with buffers to limit turnover. Weighting is float-adjusted market cap; the index reconstitutes semiannually (June/December) and rebalances quarterly (March/June/September/December).

Investment Proposition

JPMorgan BetaBuilders Developed Asia Pacific ex-Japan ETF (BBAX) provides broad, rules-based exposure to large- and mid-cap companies across developed Asia-Pacific markets while intentionally excluding Japan. The strategy seeks to mirror the region’s investable opportunity set through free-float market-cap weighting and low turnover, emphasizing simplicity and country/sector representation aligned with local market size. Resulting characteristics often include meaningful weights to financials, materials and communication-linked franchises, alongside currency exposure to Asia-Pacific units that can diversify U.S. dollar risk. Performance can be sensitive to global trade, commodity demand, and regional policy trends; it may benefit when supply-chain activity, tourism, and services cycles accelerate, and it can be challenged by currency volatility or external growth slowdowns. Portfolio roles include a regional building block within non-U.S. equity sleeves, a tactical tilt toward developed Asia ex-Japan, and diversification relative to U.S.-centric portfolios. Suitable users include global asset allocators managing regional sleeves and factor-aware investors seeking market beta without pronounced style tilts. A key risk to monitor is potential country and sector concentration that can amplify cyclicality during commodity or trade downturns.
