Deutsche Asset Management (Deutsche AM) has announced the listing of its first set of UCITS-compliant exchange-traded funds on the Mexican Stock Exchange, or Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BMV).
The 21 ETFs complement the existing Deutsche AM index funds already available on BMV, expanding the strategies available to local institutional investors and advisors.
“To be able to offer our UCITS index funds to investors in Mexico showcases Deutsche AM’s international footprint and diverse product offerings,” said Salvador Gomez, Head of Passive Asset Management for Latin America.
He added: “As a global asset manager with 10 years in the ETFs space, Deutsche AM is always looking for ways to provide investors efficient access to worldwide markets through strategies that best fit their investment needs.”
According to Greenwich Associates, ETFs are rapidly gaining importance among Latin American institutions as multi-purpose tools used to help manage challenges including lack of liquidity and increased volatility.
Moreover, Latin American investors are increasingly seeking UCITS products due to their potential for tax efficiency, and thus improved investment returns, and access to exposures and features unavailable to other ETF jurisdictions.
As institutions become more familiar with ETFs and seek new ways to employ them, industry experts expect UCITS ETFs to become a significantly larger part of the Latin American investment universe, reflecting a trend unfolding in Asia, where the share of institutional ETF users investing in UCITS ETFs now tops one-third.
